Etherial Art-Rockers Sigur Rós Grace the Stage of the Masonic Temple
I first heard Sigur Rós when I was in High School around 2001. I don’t remember how I stumbled across them. It just kinda happened. I think a video played on MTV for a track off their ( ) album but instantly I was hooked. There was something about the otherworldly sound that attracted me to them. I got the album and it was in my CD player on constant rotation for months. I even did a review for it for the High School paper, the Flushing Blazer. Their music has always had a haunting, church-like quality, the mix of traditional Icelandic and their own made up language, Vonlenska, could very well be the language of angels.
Fast Forward about 20 years later and I made a bucket lists of shows. I knew I had to photo them. And what better place to experience mass than the beautiful Masonic Temple in Detroit. For me, there is already an aura of the supernatural at the Masonic Temple, having photographed the amazing Halloween party (for lack of a better term) Theatre Bizarre. There is just a feeling in the air. The beautiful Architecture of this extraordinary theatre filled with almost 30 years of Hopelandic, 2 full sets totaling over 30 songs and spanning tracks from Von, ( ), Kveikur, and pretty much everything in between.
