Softcult, Present, and Low Phase Bring the Goods to Hamtramck

Last Thursday night Hamtramck's Sanctuary brought Softcult to Michigan for their first headlining tour. I got in as Low Phase was a couple of songs into their set and was disappointed I didn't get in sooner! Low Phase, a band from the west side of Michigan, played an impassioned set of indie rock with some excellent soaring guitars. Next up was Present who cranked up the guitars another couple notches with a triple guitar attack and an interesting mix of female vocals with male vocals coming in throughout. This was the opening show of Softcult's tour and they came out with guitars blazing along a terrific mix of sonic dreampop. Led by singer/guitarist, Mercedes and twin sister, Phoenix, on drums, they were joined by another guitarist and bass player that gave us a wall of sound with some extended songs that highlighted their incredible live presence. In addition to the live show it was inspiring to see the DIY effort they put into their merch using their own designs and offering prints of their zine, SCripture.
