The Magical Mystery Todd: Todd Rundgren at Motor City Soundstage

Todd Rundgren came back to Detroit Sunday night to the intimate Motor City Soundboard but if you thought he was coming back with the standards,Todd had a whole other bag of surprises awaiting us. Dubbed the “Me/We” tour, the set was made up mostly of soulful, underplayed songs from some of his underplayed albums. For me and many of his faithful fans it was a sweet night of inspiration. The musicianship of his band was spectacular. Standouts, which were many, included “Kindness” from 2nd Wind with Todd leading his band like a conductor, the acapella, “Honest Work,” and a very emotional take on “Hawking” that sent the crowd soaring. For the encore he included some of his old favorites in a melody, a final ballad with “The Last Ride” and “A Dream Goes on Forever.”
