Packed in for the Kills
There are sold out shows and then there is a sold out show at Saint Andrews Hall which means a jam packed, Detroit audience ready for a hell of show. The Kills were just the band to seal the deal. But, before we get to to the headliner, let me fill you in on the awesome opener, The Paranoyds. The Paranoyds played a blast of post punk, jangling tunes with shared vocals from their frontal assault of bass, guitar and keyboards. The 4th member pounded along on drums. It was a short and sweet set of songs from their latest ep, "I Like It Here" and a mix of older material. The Kills came on with Kissy, Kissy, establishing this was going to be a blistering night of bluesy, punk rock, soulful jams. With just the two of them on stage, some might feel they might need a drummer or bass player to fill out the sound but with the Kills that's definitely not the case. Jamie and Allison's vocals and guitars were searing and their energy was so captivating anything else would have been a distraction.
